Engine Cylinder Head Bolt Torque Sequence
Step-by-step procedure on how to properly torque the cylinder head bolts on the 2007-2014 Mazda 2.
- Clean the cylinder head and block surfaces.
- Apply a thin layer of engine oil to the threads of the bolts.
- Install the bolts in the proper sequence and torque to 25 Nm (18 ft-lb).
- Tighten the bolts in two additional steps, first to 65 Nm (48 ft-lb), and finally to 80 Nm (59 ft-lb).
- Recheck the torque of the bolts after the engine has cooled.

2011-03-15This TSB addresses an engine coolant leak that may occur on 2007-2014 Mazda 2 vehicles. The leak IS caused by a faulty water pump gasket.
Resolution: Replace the water pump and gasket. The bolts should be torqued to 15 Nm (11 ft-lb).
Power Steering Pressure Hose Recall
2010-07-22This recall affects 2007-2014 Mazda 2 vehicles equipped with a 1.5L engine. The power steering pressure hose may rupture, causing a loss of power steering fluid and a potential crash.
Resolution: Inspect the power steering pressure hose and replace it if necessary. The hose clamps should be torqued to 24 Nm (18 ft-lb).
